Silicon Valley Youth Bridge

October 25 , 2013

To inspire the next generation of players, SiVY Bridge hosts after school lessons and also monthly events. Our October event was the fourth Pizza Party Play Bridge and attracted our highest attendance yet. 41 young people between the ages of 10 and 25 joined us for bridge, pizza, soda, snacks, and fun!

The organizers at SiVY were very glad that 7 of our 9 active programs were represented at this month’s event: Belle Haven Boys and Girls Club, Castro Elementary, Fisher Middle School, Immaculate Heart of Mary, JLS Middle School, Jordan Middle School, and Monta Loma Elementary all had attendees. It’s great that the students in our after school programs have a way to meet each other and continue their bridge learning.

The October event featured a 2 table ACBL duplicate bridge tournament, where master points were awarded, a 4 table mini-bridge tournament, and 4 more tables playing whist or mini-bridge.

The next event will be a mini-bridge tournament on November 20 at the Gardner Boys and Girls Club in San Jose. Attendance at this will be limited to 5th to 8th graders who know how to play mini-bridge. Please contact Debbie Rosenberg (Debbie@SiliconValleyYouthBridge) if you would like to be included.

Also mark your calendars for our December 20 holiday party at the bridge club in Mountain View. This will also be invitation only, but we will be sending evites to everyone on our mailing list.

Winners of the duplicate were Kevin Rosenberg, Monta Vista High School and Roger Gong, recent UC Berkeley Grad.

The mini bridge tournament was won by Jon Coleman, Mountain View High School, and Adrian Heath, Castro Elementary. They were awarded autographed copies of The Cardturner, donated by popular children's author (Holes) and bridge player, Louis Sachar.

Game Results

Our bridge games are American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) sanctioned awarding masterpoints (MP) to high scorers. ACBL membership is not required for our games but is strongly suggested. You can join online or at the Bridge Center on the night of an event. Adult membership is $28 for the first year and junior membership only $15 per year. Both include a monthly print magazine and registration of masterpoints (start earning towards becoming a Life Master!).
