Center for Bridge Education & Silicon Valley Youth Bridge Newsletter

President's Corner

Debbie Rosenberg

It’s hard to believe that just a little over a year ago, a small group of dedicated volunteers founded Silicon Valley Youth (SiVY) Bridge. In the first year of our 11 after school programs, our 43 volunteer teachers and classroom helpers have brought bridge to more than 200 different children. We taught more than 275 hours of classes, and had more than 2500 student-hours.

In just over a year we've also held 14 events including Stanford Splash, Parent-Child duplicates, pizza parties, Boys and Girls Club events, and a Stanford vs. Cal collegiate match. We've had at least 113 different young players attend one or more events, and awarded masterpoints to at least 24 different youths. All of this can happen only because of the dedication of our volunteers, teachers, and donors.

During the month of June, we also held the Bay Area’s first ever bridge summer camp and the first 0-5 point “Youth Pairs” event at the Firecracker Sectional. You can read about those events in this newsletter and click through to our website to see many, many photos. You can also read the inspirational story of Center for Bridge Education (CBE) student Terence Li, along with other tidbits about youth bridge in the San Francisco area served by our CBE partners.

We hope you enjoy this second of three newsletters planned for this year. If you’d like to keep up with us more frequently, be sure to visit our website and like us on Facebook.
