President's Corner

Debbie Rosenberg

Without taking a breath to recover from the busy bridge summer, the dedicated SiVY volunteers and players are continuing to inspire the next generation of players.

Four middle school and one elementary school programs are underway for the 2015-2016 school year, and since Nationals, we have already held three of our regular monthly events in Mt. View as well as an event in conjunction with the Silicon Valley Sectional. And earlier this month, in conjunction with our parent/child duplicate game, the first ever “family game day” event took place. Last but not least, the second annual “Big Game” of bridge was recently contested between Stanford and Cal.

Thank you again to the dozens of volunteers who make the monthly events, the after school programs, the mentor program, casual Fridays, summer camps, the family game day, and all our SiVY activities successful. Without the volunteers there would be no SiVY bridge.

Looking ahead, planning is well underway for the second annual Bay Area High School Bridge Championship. It’s gratifying to see some of the players who learned with us at Middle Schools taking bridge to their High Schools and forming successful clubs there. Also the 2016 Summer Camp and Youth NABC sponsorship programs have just been announced, with details to follow.

This final 2015 issue of our newsletter features information about the upcoming events, a couple of notes from our past successes, and a spotlight on a couple of our longer-tenured players and volunteers. We hope you enjoy it. If you’d like to keep up with us more frequently, be sure to visit our website and like us on Facebook.  And please consider joining us in our mission to inspire the next generation of bridge players in the Silicon Valley
