Welcome to the Spring Edition of the Youth Bridge Blast newsletter. I’m always amazed how much happens in the world of youth bridge in the short span between publications, and this time is no exception.

The event that’s top of mind at the moment is the upcoming Bay Area High School Bridge Championships. Co-sponsored by Peninsula Youth Bridge (PYB), this year’s event has 55 registrants, 16 from the PYB program!

One of the teams in this year’s competition includes regular partners Cornelius Duffie and Sarah Youngquist. At the recent Kansas City Spring Nationals, Cornelius and Sarah took two days off school to participate in the four session North American Open Pairs, Flight C event. In a field of 89 pairs of all ages and after four sessions of play, they finished third overall - barely edging out another local pair by less than 1 match point! Well done!!

In other competitive bridge news – in the Grand National Teams (GNT) event qualifications for District 21 there were 17 SiVY youth players. Ranging in age from 11-21, the players were on five different teams, two of which also included parents. Two teams with youth players made it to the semi-finals, where they each lost a fairly close match. Story.

Last, but not least, a shout out to the monthly events volunteers, who do such a great job hosting players of all skill levels for food and fun. Last weekend’s party was held in conjunction with the Silicon Valley Spring Sectional, where many youth players enjoyed a special newcomer event and others competed in the regular tournament to great success!

Our next SiVY Bridge Pizza Party is planned for April 30 from 5 to 8 p.m. Check our Events page for all the details on it, and other bridge events.

Of course, none of this would be possible without the dedication and hard work of dozens of volunteers, parents, teachers, and the youth players. THANK YOU, once again, for all you do.
