President's Corner
Each fall, the SiVY Bridge volunteer teachers and coaches get busy with the school programs and clubs which are a key to achieving the organization’s mission to inspire the next generation of bridge enthusiasts. The 2018-2019 school year is our sixth school year since our founding. This year we are supporting five middle school and a record nine high school programs!
Speaking of high schools, next year’s fifth annual Bay Area High School Bridge Championship have been scheduled for April 28, 2019 at the Bridge Center in Mountain View. It promises to be the largest ever. The sixth annual Bridge Summer Camp has also been scheduled for June 24-28, 2019. Save the dates!
This newsletter covers last August's events, including the 2018 Youth North American Bridge Championships (YNABC) held in Atlanta and the United States Bridge Federation (USBF) International Championships contested in China. Thank you to Debbie Rosenberg for the USBF article.
Another key tenet of the SiVY Bridge program has been our monthly events. These fun and competitive pizza parties offer an opportunity for youth players from many schools to meet and socialize, while enjoying a bridge game and snacks. The events have recently been revamped to include a bit more teaching and coaching, with ways for players to win prizes whether or not they choose to participate in the duplicate. If your child hasn’t been to a Pizza Party lately, come join the next one on December 15!
Other 2019 events that have been scheduled include the screening of Double Dummy, The Movie on January 15 and two more Pizza Parties on February 3 and March 16. Mark your bridge calendars and plan to join us.
The organization wouldn’t exist were it not for the hundreds of volunteers who have spent thousands of hours teaching, mentoring, providing snacks, creating flyers and brochures, and dozens of other jobs over SiVY Bridge’s six year history. Thank you to each and every one of our parents, youth players, and volunteers for helping make Silicon Valley Youth (SiVY) Bridge a success.
