Volunteer, below.
We have an immediate need for volunteers to fill some key positions
Thanks to the hard work of many volunteers, we have a thriving youth bridge program, to attract, teach, train and retain young players
We offer:
- After-school programs at as many local schools as we can manage.
- Monthly pizza and bridge parties where our students can meet kids from other schools.
- Parent-Child duplicate games.
- Drop-in games.
- Inter-scholastic tournaments
- Summer Bridge Camp
- Support for attendance at national events
In order for our program to continue to thrive, we need volunteers in the following areas:
- Marketing: Develop materials used to increase awareness of the SiVY Bridge, e.g. posters, t-shirts, pictures of kids (ensure teachers get waivers for photos), “leave behind” materials.
Skills: Graphic design, writing, enthusiasm! - School Outreach: Reach out to schools on our target list to gain commitment to offer the program.
Skills: Communicator, persuasive, persistent, energetic, organized. - Curriculum: Work with existing materials and experienced teachers to create tools for teachers, e.g. training beyond TAP, monthly training.
Skills: Writing, communication, former teacher or course developer. - Teaching: Prepare lesson plans, teach and guide students during play of hands. Coordinate classroom activities. Coordinate class with school/club. Even if you have no experience teaching bridge, with some training and materials provided by the ACBL, you can share your love of bridge with a new generation of bridge players.
Skills: Communication, enjoy working with kids. - Classroom Helpers: Assist teacher as needed. Provide guidance to students during play of hands.
Skills: Communication, enjoy working with kids. - School Program Operations: Coordinate all program details with schools and teachers e.g. fingerprinting & background checks, TB tests, ordering/storing/distributing materials (cards, cardholders, books, etc.), develop teacher expectations, managing teachers, finding substitutes.
Skills: Detail-oriented, problem-solvers. - Events: Help at events: may include set-up, clean-up, organizing food, picking up pizzas at Costco, helping mentor kids, etc.
Skills: Detail-oriented, creative, energetic, prior event management experience. - Fundraising: Develop and execute fundraising plan.
Skills: Fundraising background, marketing background, connections within the local bridge community, persuasive, energetic.
Volunteers can also assist with administrative tasks such as:
- Coordinating our program on a continuing basis.
- Coordinating day-to-day activities.
- Recruiting volunteers.
- Fundraising.
