SiVY Bridge Players to Compete in Italy

Based on their performance in the Under 21 team trials last month in Atlanta, two pairs, Suzanne Campbell-Rory Xiao and Michael Hu-Arthur Zhou were invited by the United States Bridge Federation to be part of the first ever US U16 team. They will compete in the World Youth Bridge Championships this Summer in Salsomaggiore, Italy. Their third pair, Kevin Huang-Brent Xiao, are just a little too old to qualify.

All of these players have had very interesting and diverse roads that got them to this point in their bridge careers. Arthur’s is particularly noteworthy, in that his rise was fairly quick. After only a week of SiVY Summer Camp, one pizza party, and a lot of play at home with his Dad, Arthur participated in a USBF training session and joined the organization. That led to a lot of training and his success in the Junior Trials.

How did he become interested in bridge? Arthur says, “It all began on a bus trip in 2014 where Michael Hu’s parents told my parents about the bridge summer camp, and they signed me up. After a week of camp, I was hooked…”

Look for Arthur and his teammates at the local duplicate and sectional tournaments – and plan to follow their progress on BBO vugraph this summer.
