After School Programs

The second year of after school programs by Silicon Valley Youth Bridge are underway at eight elementary and middle schools, as well as our first ever High School club. This year’s programs have already introduced bridge to nearly 150 new youth in our area.

Students sign up for Bridge at Cesar Chavez Middle School club day.

One of the new programs is Cesar Chavez Middle School in Union City. The school’s choir teacher is Jennifer Carini, an aspiring bridge player from the area. Jennifer contacted SiVY Bridge over the summer wanting to bring the game she loves to the kids at her school.

“Cesar Chavez Middle School is a great school and our students always enjoy after school programs”, said Ms. Carini. “Our students really appreciate the opportunity to learn bridge. We have over 20 kids signed up for the bridge club. The first few meetings have gone very well.”

Franklin Elementary School has recently started its second year of SiVY lessons. There are 12 new students and 3 returning from last year, who have been acting as class helpers. According to a report by SiVY Teacher Joanne Wicker, “(The students) seem genuinely excited about bridge. We have fun and there are lots of smiles and laughs.”

At Franklin Elementary School (San Jose) we are introducing bridge to 4th to 6th graders. Our seven middle school programs are Fisher Middle School (Los Gatos), Jordan Middle School (Palo Alto), Peterson Middle School (Sunnyvale), Cesar Chavez Middle School (Union City), Bret Harte Middle School (San Jose), Graham Middle School (Mt. View), and The Girls’ Middle School (Palo Alto). SiVY Bridge also has its first ever High School club at Monta Vista High School (Cupertino). Learn more about our after school programs.
