SiVY Players to Attend World Youth Championships in China

Thirteen players from District 21 will be part of the U.S contingent at the upcoming 2018 World Youth Championships in China. Many of these players are regulars at SiVY events, local club games and tournaments, and some are now teaching bridge themselves!

On Wednesday, August 8th (10 a.m. August 9 in China), the Bridge Center in Mountain will hold a late night watch party to cheer on the players as they compete in one of the premier events in youth bridge. The party will begin at about 10:30 p.m. and continue as long as viewers can keep their eyes open! (Play in China goes until about 5:00 a.m. our time!!)

BBO vugraph will be shown via the bridge center's fine AV system, with Debbie Rosenberg and Will Watson offering commentary.  Will and Debbie also plan to demonstrate how to follow the local players even when they aren't on vugraph; the WBF posts running scores for all matches.

Please play to attend and bring drinks and snacks to share if you wish!!
There are four categories of youth events, and the US Bridge Federation is sending a total of five teams. More details, including full team rosters, can be found at usbf.org.

Here's who we have competing from District 21:

The USA U21 team: SiVY members Brent Xiao Kevin Huang Sarah Youngquist, Cornelius Duffie, along with Richard Jeng of Atlanta Junior Bridge. Each team must have six players for the World Championship, and SiVY player Stella Wan was added to this team.

The USA U16 team: SiVY members Rory Xiao, Jonathan Yue, Michael Hu and Arthur Zhou, along with Harrison Luba of Massachusetts. SiVY player Michael Xu was added as the sixth on this team.

The U26 USAI team includes Kevin Rosenberg, who has coached most of the kids on the U21 and U16 teams. In a sense it was a triple win for him. Stanford student Adam Kaplan is one of his teammates.

The USA Rona Cup team includes SiVY volunteer  Isha Thapa, the daughter of one of our co-founders Mukund N. Thapa. Isha qualified for this event, but unfortunately will not be able to attend.  The US Rona Cup team will compete five-handed.

The U26 USA2 team includes William Zhu of San Francisco, who learned bridge through the Center for Bridge Education. William is currently teaching youth players regularly in SF, and has attended several SiVY events.

Debbie went on to say, “I'm also proud of other SiVY members who competed in Atlanta... Even if they didn't qualify this time, I'm confident that they gained from the experience, and represented us well.”

The other Bay Area players were:
